Do not need to have a law degree or any legal background. Need passion about helping survivor & ability to connect with victims. Respondent (the abuser) will almost never admit to any wrongdoing. Victims may not come back to laura"s house because they feel ashamed for going back to the abuser. When victim says that they want restraining order: Go over the victim"s story & what happened. Describe different types of violence & what judges decide. Guest speaker: adam dodge on coercive control & restraining orders. Ex. punching picture frames & through the wall, grabbing knife & stabbing couch multiple times. Do not necessarily lay a hand on the victim but destroy property. Ex. vandalizing a car, kicking a door down, burning & destroying clothes, destruction of makeup (can be very emotional harmful & isolating) Unwanted contact that is so egregious because of what person is saying or because of the volume.
