Becoming aware of one"s own competence as an incentive: self-reinforcement as key process in achievement motivation, ex. Pride and shame: individual variation in being motivated to seek pride or to avoid shame. Stacking up rings - showing pride or shame. Self-concept: self-reflection about own competence: parents show children what is prideful and what is shameful; scaffolding. Provide and keep in focus the intended goal: children show that they can do things independently.
