Interpersonal relationships between partners have an important impact on their children. If partners are mutually supportive, then they are more involved with child rearing and are more affectionate, sensitive, and competent: division of labor: if shared, then both parents have more time to spend with the child. The parent-child system: there if no magic child rearing formula! Low in warmth: high in control, do not rely on discussion, often described as harsh, children tend to be more dependent, public yelling, spanking. Low in control: do not often discipline children, like to (cid:373)eet childre(cid:374)"s (cid:374)eeds, children tend to be less mature and less independent, more likely to have high self esteem, but problem behaviors. Authoritative parents: high in warmth, high in control, set guidelines, but are flexible, positive feedback instead of punishment, tend to do well, encouraged to be autonomous, but given rules.
