Ex: maps are analogical reps of that correspond to geographical layouts, clock corresponds to time, family trees relationships b/w relatives. Symbolic: abstract and are usually words, numbers of ideas with no relationship to physical qualities to objects. No correspondences to what a violin looks like, what it sounds like, and letters or sounds that make up violin. Categorization: grouping things based on shared properties. Consist of mental reps of those items. Allowing us to organize mental reps around a common theme. We store an abstract rep on the properties particular items or particular items ideas share. When you think of a category, you tend to look for a best example for that category.
