Children"s thinking reflects their developing internal mental structures. Bio maturation sets broad upper limits on the kinds of thinking children are capable of doing at particular ages. Children construct knowledge from their experiences-> constructivist approach. Adaptations- inborn processes of adjusting to the demands of the envt. Assimilation- process of incorporation in which some outside event is brought into a persons way of thinking. Daughter knows that little dogs and big dogs are still dogs. Accommodation is a modification process in which an existing schema is changed or modified to make sense of something that is new and different. Daughter calls a cat a dog because it has 4 legs you tell you daughter not that is a cat. Disequilibrium is a state of cognitive conflict that arises when ones existing way of thinking is not confirmed by experiences confirmed by experiences. Using assimilation and accommodation a person can more form disequilibrium to equilibrium.
