Intro to individualism and corporatism: the idea of individualism: i. Alternative ways of thinking about interconnection and the larger society to which one belongs. In our society, we like to emphasis the individual (the source of all values) Tension between western christianity and the muslim world can be viewed as a religious conflict. Professor argues that it is a tension about how the individual fits into society. 2012: and egyptian that lived in the united states produced a video about muhammad. That video was eventually talked about in egypt and led to street protests because the video was viewed as being sacreligious. Idea of freedom: the right of a community to be free of insult ot its values. When you hurt someone, you are just hurting one person. But, when you insult a faith, you hurt a whole nation. Contrary to us, freedom is to be blasphemous; to express our own thoughts and beliefs.
