Concept 1: alleles: alternative versions of genes; account for variation in inherited characters. Relate to chromosome and dna, dna at that locus can vary slightly in its nucleotide sequence in its nucleotide sequence. Variation in the nucleotide sequence can affect the function of the encoded protein, thus an inherited feature. Concept 2: organism inherit 2 alleles; (1 from each parent) for each character. Haploid egg carries 1 allele and haploid sperm carries other.
