Document Summary

Ecology: study of the house, interactions between organisms and environment. Ecology and environmentalism are not the same. Organismal ecology: studies how organisms structure, physiology, and behavior affect survival in environments. Population ecology: factors that affect how many individuals of a species live in an environment. Community ecology: multiple populations in an area. Global ecology: biosphere, sum of all planets ecosystems. Biogeography: interactions between organisms and environment, biogeographic realm. Biotic factors: interactions with other species, predation, competition. Abiotic factors: temperature, water, sunlight, wind, rocks/soil. Climate: 4 major abiotic components make up climate. Temperature, water, sunlight, wind: climate is the prevailing weather conditions in a particular area. Global climate patterns: determined largely by the input of solar energy and movement in space, seasons, air circulation and wind patterns. Regional, local climate: bodies of water moderate climate of terrestrial environment, mountains affect sunlight, temperature and rainfall, angle of the sun leads to seasonal change.
