Transaction- an exchange of verbal and nonverbal messages between two or more people. System- a collection of interdependent parts arranged so that a change in one part provides a corresponding change in the others. Interdependence- a relationship in which things have a reciprocal influence on each other. Feedback- audience member responses, both verbal and nonverbal, to a speaker. Message- the meaning produced by the speaker and audience members. Content- the meaning/gist of what a speaker wants to convey. Relational component- combined impact of the verbal and nonverbal parts of a message. Symbol- something that stands for something else by reason of relationship/association. Encoding- the process of converting thoughts and ideas into meaningful symbols. Decoding- the process of translating symbols back into ideas. Channel- the way you make your message public. Perception- the process by which we give meaning to our experiences. Noise- anything that messes up the flow of the message between sender & receiver.
