THE 2000 Lecture 22: The Rehearsal Process
Document Summary
Plays get five weeks, musicals get six weeks. The first show in the black box usually is a lil shorter. The bridge show sometimes gets a little extra (the one right after winter break) You can appeal to have more (you"ll probably get turned down) Some shows don"t need as much rehearsal. Go in with an overall schedule worked out, but it will change from night to night, depending on the actors. Directors have to be able to adapt to all that. The sooner you start, the sooner you"re done. In unions, if you"re late, your fined. Depends on the director, show, rehearsal period etc. Sometimes, you really need to dissect the text, so it"s okay if it takes longer because of that. Typically, if it"s already been blocked, you should be memorized. If you"re cast in a spring show, you should be memorized by when you"re rehearsing, because you were cast in october.
