Pastoralist and agriculturalist: great zimbabwe 11th to 15th century. 15, 16th centuries were a period of political instability in most of africa. Europeans built trading and way stations along the coast, mostly portuguese. Slave trade was carried out by african rulers and muslims: subservient (ready to conform to authority) and backward 2) not quite human; black and pagan 3) primitive in technology. Attempts to convert gave way to commercial interests. A policy or practice by which a country increases its power by gaining control over other areas of the world.
