A&O SCI 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Sea Breeze, Advection, Monsoon
Document Summary
Heat transport by atmosphere and oceans: there is always a surpolus of net radiation in the tropics. Middle and high latitudes emit more infrared radiaition than they receive, so they experience chronic deficits in net radiation: both the ocean and the atmosphere are involved in the transport of hear. Monsoon: seasonal reversal of winds usually accompanied by corresponding changes in precipitation, normally used to refer to the rainy phase of the seasonally- changing period. Local wind systems: advection: sea breeze moving to land to replace land air as it rises since it is hotter than the ocean, convection: warm lighter air rises over land to form clouds and produce rain. Rainiest populated place in the world = cherapunji, india.
