Document Summary

Brie y discuss slavery in the ancient greco-roman world. Discuss the greco-egyptian city of alexandria and its role as a key center of greek literary culture. This could be why there are so many rape narratives. People are putting their fears in to this myths. However, institutionalized rape existed in ancient greece through slavery. Conquered in war by foreign power, can become a slave. Slaves must submit to whatever their master wants. Kind of poetry where you could discus everyday life issues. If master wants sex or gives someone permission, slave has to do whatever they want. A lot of greek/roman literature written by higher society men. Have money and access to slaves, other men"s wives, etc. Sense of entitlement among these writers that can translate into their writing. Maybe this is not re ective of everyone or even most people of the ancient world. You would be a slave for a certain amount of time.
