Film provides us a giant mirror which reflects our values, cultural ideals, half-truths and appeals to our emotions e. g. anger, disappointment, love. The big screen takes the universal emotions and inflates them. Film influences our conceptions of reality e. g. ideas about romance, marriage proposals, gangsters learn their crafts from movies. Persistence of vision - the visual image is retained on the retina of the eye for a fraction of a second after it appears. Motion pictures are a series of still frames that are present to the eye in rapid succession. Persistence of vision allows images to blend together, creating the illusion of motion.
