LIFESCI 15 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Cuckold, Master Sergeant, Parental Investment
Document Summary
What aspects of it make it so different from our environment of evolutionary adaptedness? (e. e. a) Agriculture idea developed then spread around 2000 years ago (blink of an eye in an evolutionary perspective) We don"t have the capacity to produce our own food. We don"t have the capacity to produce our own: medicine, shoes, contact lenses, houses, sanitation systems. You don"t have to learn instincts, you just know it. It"s hard to be a teenager: day care reduces need for parental investment (babies seem helpless) 4: firearms reduce need for strength, armies can fight our battles, money reduces our reliance on others (no repeated interactions needed, car valet) They are only fit for you if you were a hunter-gatherer. We"re in a situation where only some of our instincts get us into the right situation and some of them don"t. Our environment is very alien to our brains. Evolution fine-tuned us for a different world. ( mismatch )
