Document Summary
Patients may not necessarily know if they have a problem. Last time: imaging techniques that detect problems/blockades in the blood vessels that could potentially lead to stroke/heart attack. Angioplasty (coronary) - artificially widening the blood vessels. A balloon is inserted in the blood vessels and is inflated to increase the diameter of the blood vessels. A balloon can be inserted with a cage of sorts that holds the blood vessel open, and it usually has drugs in it that gradually dissolve the fat over time. Bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft - cabg) - a blood vessel is sewn into the problematic area as an alternate pathway. Multiple blood vessels supply the same area. For example the palm has 2 blood vessels. There are 3 locations - the arm (radial), heart (sternal), and legs (saphenous) - that can be used for the extra blood vessels.
