Document Summary

Clark-hatfield study- maels and females of average attractiveness approached members of the opposite sex and asked then to go out with them or sleep with them. 56% men said yes to a date, 47% of women said yes. Female number drops to 0% when asked for sex, male percentage skyrockets. Proximity (being nearby) plays a role because: mere exposure- the more you see something, the more you tend to like it. Study: had confederates attend a class (with different frequencies) and had others rate their attractiveness, people rated confederate with best attendance highest: more opportunities to meet and interact. College campuses- distance and accessibility between 2 rooms predicts attraction (manipulating dorm assignments- how likely you are to run into them) Random (alphabetized) seating assignments in class- circling around kids in class: people are likely to live near people of similar economic, social backgrounds. Wealth, class, ethnicity, and education levels tend to cluster by neighborhood.
