Face: positive image an individual tries to create in a social context. Line: verbal and nonverbal actions used to create / maintain your face. Face-work: actions done to maintain a positive self-image when interacting with others. Maintain image + account for line that deviates. Protective orientation: help save face (other people acting on your behalf) Self = language of who we are. People occupy multiple roles and act differently in each. Multiple selves: many different roles in different contexts. Code switching: present different in different situations.
