Ideal number of people in collaboration: 5-7 people. Group needs to be large enough to tackle the superordinate goal- one person can"t do a superordinate goal. Primary groups- family, shapes expectations of life. Problem-solving groups- work groups & self-directed work teams. Iconoclast- challenges norms of a group or of a society. Private acceptance- occurs when individual values membership in the group & opinion is unanimously against him/her. Public compliance- desire to avoid the unpleasantness of conflict, between whether people change their thinking as a result of hearing opinions different from their own or whether they say they agree with the group when they actually disagree. Social loafing- tendency for people in a group to put less effort, thinking that others will make up for their lack of effort. Norming- learn how to understand to work together. Group dynamics: task roles- getting the job done. Group dynamics: maintenance roles- help group stay on task.
