Others are distant, but not necessarily unsupportive: could be due to geographically distant (which is a bad excuse) Positive connections over time create opportunities for intergenerational connections, support, and generativity. Want to have positive relationship with grandchild. Are supportive of child and grandchild: helping child is helping grandchild. Creating a greater support convoy for child. Negative connections over time increase the likelihood of cross-generational coalitions, triangling, and splits.
