Us is not an accurate representation of the world in terms of religion percentages. People eat / avoid certain foods depending on religious beliefs. Roles of food in religion: communicate with god, demonstrate faith, develop discipline through fasting. Religions which have food rules: christianity (communion, christmas, islam (holidays, hinduism, judaism, sikhism, buddhism, seventh-day adventist church, rastafarian movement. Hinduism: animal flesh is prohibited except lamb, chicken, fish (semi- vegetarianism, strict hindus are vegetarian, cow is held in high regard so they don"t eat beef. Sikhism: prohibit all animal flesh and any food that"s halal or kosher, no alcohol. Buddhism: strict vegans (no animal flesh or animal products) Seventh-day adventist: lacto-ovo-vegetarians, no animal flesh, but will eat eggs and milk.
