Avery welch philosophy/gender week 5 2/15/16. Woc located at the margins of feminism & antiracism: woc women of color. Silencing: exclusion & problematic inclusion: race, feminist, protection of black men by withholding colored rape statistics, but ignorance of domestic abuse. Against black women: feminists fighting against stereotype that domestic violence only happens to minorities. It happens to white women as well, but concentrating on white women takes attention away from minority groups. Lower class/colored women tend to be more sexualized. A lot more victim blaming" with someone considered trashy" (ie. lower class) Negative connotations: simply including black women in the anti-rape movement isn"t enough. It doesn"t address the full range of the issue. Black women suffer from sexism and racism, white women suffer from sexism: including one black woman in an anti-rape video and the rest white women (problematic inclusion) Conceptions of rape and anti-rape law overlook woc.
