Weber: power = person"s ability to achieve his objective even if people want to resist. Requires force: authority = the capacity to get people to voluntarily do things. Steven lukes: both of these are forms of power, we need to pay attention to the three dimensions of power. The three dimensions of power: first dimension. When 2+ parties are engaged in a visible conflict, whoever prevails can be said to have exerted power over the other. Feminists questioned that and asked if it had to be done this way. Men made the money, so women could not leave: second dimension. Power holder prevents subordinate from raising issues that would challenge their authority. Last time child argued with parents, they got yelled at, so now they do not. This, in itself, is a form of power. Not processing your request, refusing to give you a meeting, etc. Men steer conversations in ways that keep people from questioning power.
