Having knowledge of sex is known to be a free ticket to have power. Those who exploit this notion, and how sex is behaved tend to rise to power. Contested idea that marriage and the family are based on natural" facts" of reproduction. Family, motherhood, and marriage vary greatly from society to society, and within societies. People have different notions and feelings towards these terms. In 1940/1950"s there were the first detailed surveys of sexual behavior of men and women in the u. s. kinsey was the one who studied them. Found many engaging in behaviors seen as atypical" at the time. Found data that proved things about sex, things that you wouldn"t necessarily know about someone, were normal. In 1960"s masters and johnson"s corrected heterosexist and androcentric beliefs about female sexuality. A critique was that it looked at physical/biological response cannot be focus of sexuality studies. Question of whether we could use these conclusions to generalize.
