Facts you need to know about rotation. Period of rotation - how long does it take to go around the circle - t (seconds) 1 rpm = one rotation per minute = period is 60 seconds. Frequency of 1 rpm - 1/60 hz. Angular velocity - do not need to know for exam. The object is traveling at frequency 1hz, what is the acceleration. Objects at rest tend to stay at rest . Object in uniform motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction . If a net external force acts on an object, it accelerates in that direction. Net external force (fext) is the vector sum of all of the forces acting on an object. F xi = forces in x direction. Weight (w=mg): force of gravity pulling on any mass - always points down. Normal force (n): force of contact with surface - points perpendicular to surface.
