Document Summary

Ethics, more than just being the application of a rule, is always somehow tragic: we face two right things and are unable to satisfy both. Political moralism is the idea that politics is a vehicle for morality: politics should aspire to realize or achieve some kind of moral good: a good that comes from how we live our lives as individuals. Moral commitment to (ex. ) respect the elderly, or ppl with mobility issues it is good to be nice and respectful to elderly, and so we should pass laws that respect the elderly. Our politics should be a realization and extension of morality. Enactment model: we recognize some form of moral good in society and we try to make it a political reality for all (enact moral principles in politics) Ex: people shouldn"t lie liars are routinely punished. Marx: alienation is bad and immoral enact a moral and good society. Politics is a vehicle to realize a moral good.
