Moivated to engage because expecing external reward (good grade, physical reward) Approach that incorporates the various moivaion theories by viewing them in terms of levels of need: abraham maslow, physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness and love needs, esteem needs, need for self-actualizaion. Physiological needs: food, water, oxygen, sleep, and sex, biological. Safety needs: security of: body, morality, family, resources, property, health. Self-actualizaion other people: only when lower needs are met can one potenially atain self-actualizaion. Many companies use incenive programs to moivate their employees. Extrinsic incenives can undermine intrinsic moivaion (deci, 1971)
