Formula for number of possible types of gametes is 2^n where n is the number of heterozygous loci. Number of posisble gametes, each with different chromosome compositions: When two independent events occur simultaneously, the combined probability of the two outcomes is equal to the product of their individual probabilities. The sum law is used to calculate the probability of a generalized outcome that can be accomplished in more than one way. The sum law states that the probability of obtaining any single outcomes, where that outcome can be achieved in tow or more events, is equal to the sum fo the individual probabilities of all such events. Roll one die -> chance of rolling a 6 is 1/6. Chance of not rolling a six is 1 - 1/6 = 5/6. The probability of getting at least one six is the opposite as the probability of getting no sixes.
