BILD 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Dna Replication, Dna Polymerase, Primase
Document Summary
The number of a"s is the same number of t"s. The number of g"s is the same number of c"s. Found variation in dna base composition between species. The only consistent data with the x-ray was that a purine is attached to a pyrimidine because of their sizes. Formation of new strands complementary to template strands. Hydrogen bonds break up and the cell opens up to unravel the strands. This bubble called the replication bubble will keep opening up and copying dna. An enzyme called helicase attacks the replication fork and unwinds the helix. Attached to the dna strands to prevent the dna strands from reattaching. Helps with the buildup of dna strands from being unwind. The cell is going to make a polymer of dna. A primer is a short stretch of nucleotides that is put there by another enzyme called primase. The dna polymerase can come in and start making the copy.
