Achilles, one of the achaeans" most valuable warriors, claims briseis. Chryseis father, a man named chryses who serves as a priest of the god apollo, begs agamemnon to return his daughter and offers to pay an enormous ransom. When agamemnon refuses, chryses prays to apollo for help. Apollo comes down from olympos and shoots at the achaeans with his bow. Achilleus calls a meeting on the tenth day. With that reassurance, kalchas reveals that the plague was caused by apollo, who was avenging the kidnapping of his priest"s daughter. Kalchas tells agamemnon that he has to give the girl back. The powers that be are now officially angry. Kalchas. he says he"ll give up chryseis this is the girl"s name but only if he gets something equal in return.
