Early sura = shorter, in mecca, core beliefs. Later sura = longer, in medina, rules for new community. Opening prayer (faitha) = functions like the lord"s prayer . Jewish community welcomed him more than his own followers in medina (monotheistic, that"s why) 622 a. d. = hijra - emigration from mecca to medina. = 1st establishment of a muslim community ( umma )
