The east never stops being roman at the same time the west struggles to determine who they are. The east holds the richest part of the roman empire. Had no problem separating with the west because they were much poorer and the taxes and money from the east to pay for the west was no longer necessary with the split. The east could now keep their money a huge amount of economic prosperity. If affected at all by the loss of the west, it is affected positively. In the 5th and early 6th century, nothing done in the east to reconquer the western territory.
