PSYC 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Dollhouse, Broccoli, Egocentrism
Document Summary
Today"s class: beliefs, desires, and theory of mind. Kids see whole objects (whole object constraint) Ex) think that objects are out to get you . Ex) playing with dolls as if they are real. Resistentialism- belief that objects are resisting your will (they are conspiring against you) Step 1- identifying agents: learn what objects to use in order to achieve goals. Step 2- representing the behavior and internal states of others: in a useful way, a way that they can use this knowledge, competence vs performance issue. Ex) response to an emotionless face: infants are aware of facial expression meanings (eyes, facial muscles, etc. ) almost from birth, they are extremely responsive to faces around them, video- baby and mother actively engaging in facial emotions. But when mother becomes expressionless, the infant continues to make expressions, gets confused as to why the mother does not respond, and then becomes upset and frustrated.
