Fluid : g , the ability to deal with new and unusual problems. Crystallized : acquired knowledge, including verbal knowledge and expertise in a subject. Fluid intelligence peaks in early adulthood and then declines, but crystallized intelligence keeps on growing slowly. Early iq tests were made to identify children who need extra help. But people who are good at one kind of thing also tend to be good about other things. Some aspects are shared across tests, other parts are not. Valid : measures what it is supposed to measure. Iq test reliability: very high (but not perfect) Environmental changes during crucial periods of development. Iq scores predicts success at mentally complex jobs. Intellectually complex professions: predicts 36-64% of the variance in success. Assembly line job performance: predicts only 4% of the variance in success. Iq scores predict about 25% of the variation in academic success . There is a relationship between iq and income!
