Week 9 readings and notes: the future of teams. New science of building great teams: pentland. Team building is a science not an art. Patterns of communication important in team success. Electronic badges that collect data on communication behavior ( sociometrics: measures of how people interact. Tone of voice, body language, who they talk to, whether they face one another, how much gesture, how much they talk, listen, interrupt, levels of extraversion and empathy. Everyone on team talks and listens a roughly equal amount. Members face each other, conversations and gestures energetic. Members connect directly with one another not just leader. Members carry on side conversations within team. Members break, explore outside of team, bring information back. Energy: measured by number and nature of exchanges. How team members contribute to a team as a whole. Engagement: distributions of energy among team members. How team members communicate with each other.
