Pick up hormones from endocrine glands, deliver to target cells. Waste removal from cells, delivery to waste disposal organs/systems. Intracelluar fluid the water within cells (2/3 of total volume) Extracelluar fluid the water that surrounds cells (1/3 of total volume) Interstitial fluid the water around cells, (not in the vascular system) Blood plasma the water component of blood. Capillaries = permeable water can leak out. At the arterial side of the capillary bed, blood pressure is higher than tissue (hydrostatic pressure) = water and proteins leak out. Certain substances can not move across the capillary ex:albumin. At venule side of capillary the higher concentration of these substances draws some of the water back into the capillary. Not all the water gets back into the capillary (~10% remains)
