4/14 in class: kinship, who relatives are (beyond immediate/ within family, families vs marriage types, polygene- 1 husband + 2 or more wives. Consequences with family in general, but built around children: polyandry- 2 husbands(or more)+ 1 wife. It provides ways to view the biological facts of reproduction. Unilineal- tracing decent on one side of the family (mother or father: patrilineal- from father, matrilineal- from mother, lineage, people sharing land, people sharing items, deals with every day practical decisions, clan, its religious, organizing ceremonies. Bilateral: tracing family from both sides of family: kindred- all of relatives from both sides, responsibilities flexible, membership is changeable, nobodies is identical, lasts your whole lifespan. **diagrams not on exam just know this general fact*: anthropologists use decent diagrams to help define patrilineage, matrilineage, and bilateral, kin classification, refers to labels we use to identify different kinds of relatives.
