NGOs and international Conservation
● NGO=Non Governmental Organization
○ No government status
○ Wide social aim
○ Works quicker and with government it is hard to go into other countries and
crossing boundaries to help protect
○ Defined by the World Bank as "private organizations that
○ pursue activities to relieve suffering, promote the interests of the poor, protect the
environment, provide basic social services, or undertake community
development"
● Primary methods:
○ Public relations/lobbying
○ Projects and activities
● Funding
○ Private donors
○ Membership dues
○ Sales of goods and services
○ Grants (often from the Gov)
● Provide a structured means for concerned citizens to take actions, even if only through
donations
● Local
○ White clay creek has a local GMO associated with it
