To understand behaviors and why people act the way they do. In which individuals, thoughts, behaviors an feelings, are in uenced by the presence of other people (real and imagined presence) Imagined presence - no one around but still feel like someone is looking. Human tendency to categorize in the environment + need to belong. If the need to belong implies we need to be apart of social groups, must navigate going about working memory and how to interact. Implies we must be metacognitive - thinking about your own thinking. Social brain hypothesis- the larger and more complex social groups are, the larger and more complex your prefrontal cortex is (brain power) Prefrontal cortex - helps control attention and working memory. When we apply auto categorizations we think quickly and automatic (threat or non threatening ) Evolved to be able to quickly classify objects and people.
