Conflict theories- unequal distribution of resources (haves vs have nots) Class is really ses= socioeconomic status (not just money) 1: status (social)- amount of respect you get from others. Power (political)- ability to make decisions to gain benefit. Income- money from sources such as earnings, unemployment compensation, social security, interest, and dividends, and rental income. Wealth- family or household"s net worth, the difference between the value of these assets and the amount of debt (total assets) 3 to 5% of the population possesses more than half the wealth in the u. s. Can structure institutions to benefit themselves, have economic and political power. Make around k/year for one single person. Comfortable, but has lost income share since 1970s- not doing as well as they were. One crisis (job loss, medical problem, etc. ) can mean homelessness.
