(cid:863)- marshall mcluhan. The form of media determines the message that is communicated. Text promotes linear thinking: social construction of technology. Humans culture and interpretation determine meaning of technology. Technology has no meaning outside of social context. Remote control is a symbol of power in the living room: social shaping of technology. Human choices, whether consciously or not, determine what technology becomes. Dial turned into a remote because they were inconvenient. Radio: the first mass media to reach large illiterate populations.
