Dance serves as a way for them to keep religion viable and for traditional religion. Us is taking away their sacred land. Want to build pipeline in sacred land for oil, and indians are being pushed over and over off their land. They dance for all important events for a persons life and for hunting and planting. Share common heritage but differ by group- nomads follow herds. Hopi have fertility dance that waken snakes. 12 dancers hold snakes in the mouth and wear all black. Yaqui have male solo dance for a deer dance- they mimic the dance of the deer.
