Identity: what makes something the same thing persisting through time. All 3 substances are in the same place: Both have beginnings in definite places and time, which is in relation to their identity. For a single atom, once it comes to exist it is the same as itself and continues to be itself until destroyed. But if one mass is removed, it is no longer the same object. Have a particular organization of parts such that a mass coheres and partakes in one common life. Is is the organization and continuity that grants identity. Living bodies: organization and motion of life initiate at the same time. Thing being with reason and reflection and can can consider itself, itself. Inseparable from thinking: rather than maintain organization and consciousness. Consciousness is the minimal condition for person and identity makes everyone a self and distinguishes her from all other selves and things at any given time.
