Cross-cultural differences may arise from geography (terrain, climate, etc) Children learn social norms of their culture through socialization > learning how to become mature members of society: cultural change & social norms, cultural products. Convey cultural messages about proper behavior & beliefs. Useful for studying culture at a broad level. Examples : song lyrics, tv shows, advertisements, & books: uniqueness of culture. Mutual constitution model: cultures & individuals constantly interacting with each other, culture shapes individuals & individuals shape culture. Cultural system placing the needs of self over those of others & society the needs of others & society over the self. Focus more on external attributions (an explanation for behavior focused on the individual and his/her choices & personality) attributions (an explanation for behavior focused on the surrounding situation) Context is emphasized over than context of situation.
