General rule for most herbs and plants: if you ingest these, the chemicals within them will usually not reach the brain. However, some will, and these may have psychoactive and pharmacological effects. People will spend more out-of-pocket money for alternative medicines than pharmaceuticals. Possible benefits: taking control over treatment, better absorption and distribution that synthetic drug, lower dose than synthetic drug, unique combinations of drugs may be more effective, possible existence of naturally-occurring drugs with high efficacy, low-cost and easy to get.
