Bacteria need chnops to grow: in addition to micro and macro nutrients, growth factors are not needed but can enhance growth. A photoautotroph uses light to fix co2 into more complex carbon molecules: light provides its energy. Photoheterotroph=use light for energy but can not use co2, must use a complex carbon. Chemoorganotroph = basically the same as a heterotroph needs complex organic c source. Chemoheterotroph= need complex c source for energy. Chemolithotroph= basically autotroph, need to use co2. Chemoautotroph= need to use co2 for energy. A heterotroph"s carbon source = their energy source: they can get electrons from oxidizing c-h bonds. An autotroph"s carbon source does not = their energy source: co2 is already maximally oxidized, thus they must get their energy from light, or other oxidations. Growth medium= contains micro and macro nutrients: complex media=contains one or more preformed nutrients. Thus, substances grow on this media faster.
