Different from other post war periods since am exp econ prosperity after 1815. Since jefferson the dem rep (advocated weak fed govt) were gaining power. the fed were completely gone by 1820. A lot of pol importance in virginia. Early pres all had similar prev work exp. Thomas jeff: served as washington"s secretary of state. James madison: served as jeffs sec of state. James monroe: served as madison"s sec of state. Seeming criteria: be from virginia, be the secretary of state. Virg dynasty? half of bc pres in these early stages of election. As we head to the 1820s we see a much younger generation of politicians. Don"t view politics as a neg competition. A lot mor eppl enter the pol compet. In addition, american people embrace the political competition. Start to see: pol parades, parties, bbq"s, etc. Candidates actively seek elections and court pub opinion. Many more ppl gain the right to vote.
