Armistice nov 11, 1918: armistice: means the fighting is over, doesn"t end the war but fighting is stopped. Cpi: committee of public information: set up by wilson, would go around telling people the war was a fight for democracy. Germans = grave threat: wilson would tolerate no dissent; you can"t protest the war. Democracy at home (eugene debs: gave a speech in canton, ohio 1918 and was arrested bc us congress, at wilsons insistence, passed 2 laws that made it illegal to criticize the war, sedition act. It was a war for profits and glory of the lords: said master class declares wars for their interest, and working people fight and often die this got him in trouble; that it wasn"t a war for. America but a war for rich people and the poor shouldn"t fight in it. Great deal of repression during wwi bc of sedition act clear violation of 1st amendment.
