20 views3 pages

Document Summary

Both biotic (living - bacteria viruses) and abiotic (non-living minerals chemicals and medicine) factors can affect human health and interactions between biotic factors that may not have been a threat and abiotic factors can further threaten human health. Antibiotic and antifungal resistance has continued to rise. Concentrated animal feeding organizations (cafo) 80% of all antibiotics are used on factory farm animals. Industrialized production of meat: allows for more meat to be raised and faster. Animals are kept in close quarters and fed with little exercise: higher risk of contamination, density-dependence, concern about large quantities of waste produced and conditions. To keep animals healthy they are given antibiotics prophylactically. Long-term exposure to antibiotics can also disrupt microbes we need to live. Most chemicals enter the environment as waste: waste: material that is not wanted; the unusable remains or by-products. Liquid- unless inside of sewers or pipes difficult to control or treat: gas- very difficult to control. (co2 ,methane)
