Life of an individual was highly influenced by pressure, structure, and organization of society. Society: is made up of more than the sum of individuals. It is composed of social facts, the values, beliefs, norms, and sentiments that guide individual behavior and hold society together. Collective consciousness: the totality of beliefs and sentiments common to the average members of a society forms a determinate system with a life of its own. Shared some of his ideas with marx in regards to progress in social structure over time.
